It's not an official sport event and it will probably never be considered for the Olympics, but the growing popularity of Rubber Doll White-Water rafting in Russia saw the fourth annual contest staged near St.Petersburg. The event, better known as the 'Bubble Baba Challenge', is the highlight of the novelty watersports season in Russia, and was held over a testing one kilometre course near St.Petersburg.

Contestants are required to brave rapids on the river Vuoksa while embracing a blow-up doll, some of whom had their modesty preserved by t-shirts. The idea to use rubber dolls to race down the rapids was conceived as a joke four years ago during a long rafting trip involving only men. Since then the popularity of this new watersport has grown rapidly.

The FBI had distributed two photographs digitally treated in trying to give a more current picture of the world's most wanted terrorist, Osama bin Laden, to facilitate your search. He did not say the U.S. agency is one of them had inserted the hair that sported a sign Llamazares electoral employed by the leftist coalition (ex Spanish comunist party) during the 2004 election.
It seems a joke or a teaser but it was true. How could happen something like that with the prestigious FBI?.

Kseniya Simonova is a Ukrainian artist who just won Ukraine's version of "America's Got Talent." She uses a giant light box, dramatic music, imagination and "sand painting" skills to interpret Germany's invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII.
It´s only eight minutes of pleasure and simplicity watching how the sand is changing as our thoughts. She gets to contact with the deep emotions of the jury about the history of Ukrania.
I couldn´t resist the temptation to write about it.

Hard Winter

It´s being a hard winter everywhere certainly. From Vancouver to Tenerife, the common factor is the snow. It´s only a brief stay, two or three days, in the top of Teide (3718m.) but when there is snowed you can feel the cold in all islands.
It´s not an usual image; Vancouver snowed however is a beautiful scene with English Bay frozen and the skyline with several lines of vapour from the heat systems.
The snow uses to announce that there will be enough water in summer. We need this kind of hope so we need that after the economical crisis would be fresh water available too.
The photos about Vancouver was sent to me by my friend Etsuko and the photos about Teide are from my sister who is living in Tenerife. Regards for both.

Recently I´ve read in the newspapers the huge success of a short novel plenty of draws about the bullying.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney had become in a phenomena in USA and in Spain too, although we´ve "translated" certain issues inside our educational sytem which don´t exist there.

We use to remember the school as a very important stage in our lives and we would deserve that this rememberings were as happy as posible.

However the reality is that a lot of children suffer abuse in the school by other schoolmates.

The school should be a place where oneself could develop his own personality with freedom.

Gion Festival

My friend Susumo kindly sent me this photos about his wonderful country, Japan. He use to send me pics each season.
I feel so glad and lucky when i receive news about him.
Recently I visited Vancouver, where we met, and I could find some of our commons friend then.
In this ocassion he sent me this photos about the famous Gion Festival:
It´s a very big and traditional festival in a city named Kyoto. It started in the 9th century, and July 17 is the climax day, float parade day.All floats are displayed with many carpets or tapestries.Many of them were imported from Asian and European countriesmany years ago. So they are called 'Moving Museum'.

You can appreciate the follow different scenes:
One of floats which many musicians are playing the bells and drums on and you can see one foreigner taking part. You can also see the thunder god in the background which has many drums around his body.
The second float is making a turn now.You can see an old western tapestry in front.All floats are assembled without any nail before the festival.
The floats are parading the streets. Many persons tug them. The front float has just made a turn.

Surf in Gomera, an option.

I embed a very interesting video about one option for leisure in Gomera. You can practice the surf or as you can see in the video the body-boarding or Boogie. I suppose that the reason why they prefer use the boogie is because teh beach of Hermigua has rocks in the shore, no sand. They need keep away of the shore and at the same time the waves are so big and with a high frecuency. Anyway the structure of this beach is composed by a bottom of fine sand which is always under the sea even in the low tide, a shore with rounded rocks and the streams use to go since north- east to east. Thus, when the surfers fall into the waves they don´t suffer any damage if they shock with the bottom.
I´ve drawn for you the usual direction of the main streams in these beach with green colour and the square in violet is the area where the streams are so strong going at the shore but at the same time the sand is over the level of the sea at least during the low tide.
I recommend an extreme caution because as you can see the streams push you outside always except in the area where the waves are breaking and furthermore doesn´t exist rescue team in the case you need help.

The end of the trilogy. It´s a group of photos with myself in front or together the monuments which I visited.
I enjoyed a lot the travel and the experience. I met interesting people there and furthermore I could see a bit, really bit, of the Egyptian daily life. However I guess that in the inside the country and sharing with them the time you can contact with the Egyptian people easily.

This is the second video of the trilogy titled My Egipt. In this ocassion is a collection of photos about Nile. I was visiting during one week the more famous monuments near of the Nile since Luxor until Assuan in the south of Egypt.
Commonly this kind of visit are carefully programmed and yu can visit all the monuments so fast but I guess that is the best option for your first trip to Egypt.
You can visit the Egyptian shore of the Red Sea too where you can find wonderful places to do scuba diving or simply enjoy its beaches plenty of tropical fishes.
An advice; please, don´t try swimming in the Nile so the water could contain certain parasites and furthermore, the streams in the river are so powerful.

The boy tells us how is the the mind of this people and he give us examples where we could appreciate differences with "standar" people.

I´m working with mentally disabled people right now, probably by this reason this testimonies call my attention. This video was in the first position in Youtube one day.

Butterflies coming back

The Monarchs are coming back at Canada again from Michoacan in Mexico. It´s the national insect of Canada.
I read this news today in El Mundo, an Spanish newspaper.
This migration is one of the more amazing and beautiful miracles of the natural world. This fragile butterflies, only the females because the males died after to mate, fly almost 3000km crossing Mexico, USA and finally the south of Canada.
They´ll stop in California where they put the eggs and finally they´ll spend their lifes in Canada.
It´s the announce of the spring their coming.
It´s a wonderful sensation to see yourself around of thousands of butterflies in El Rosario or Sierra Chincua where is allowed to the tourist visit their colonies; they´re located in the mexican states of Michoacán and Mexico.

Condensed weekend

This my second experiment using the time-lapse technique. It´s a composition where I used a program named HandyAvi which allows you to use your webcam to do this kind of videos, later on I had to convert into MPEG the videos to put and edit them with Pinnacle 10.7. I prefered don´t use any soundtrack... frankly, I haven´t any appropiate comic music.

The storyboard is as simple as my life lately... how I did spent my time during the weekend?. I recorded myself in the moments when I was watching my DVDs, chatting or sailing in internet.

This the result but, please, note that I´m not so bored in the real life.

Flying over Gomera

Do you want see how is the Gomera since the heaven?. Gomera was the last island in Canaries where was built an airport... regretably the airport is short of activity right now with only a few couples of flights to the main islands.
Everyone here knows perfectly the legend about Gomera; it´s only a huge mountain without any flat surface. However in the south of the island we could built finally one of the smaller airports of Europe.
By the way, the logo that you can see in the video is a company named TUI which operates in several countries of Europe as tour-operator.For example the name of TUI in UK is Thompson, in Germany TUI Deustchland and here TUI España.

It´s my birthday today. I´ve lived a year plenty of experiences and work and I continue thinking about several ideas over my future.

I´d like travel again to Vancouver and visit other places in Canada and maybe USA.

I continue improving my small equipment of photography with new filters. For example, I did this photo using a green filter in a Panasonic DMC-FZ5.

I´ll upload several photos which I´ve done using several tools soon, furthermore I decided to put here a collection of my small photos about Canada.

Recently I rendered this video about the Celebration of the Light in Vancouver. It was filmed at English Bay on 30th July, 2005.

Sometimes I miss so much Vancouver or at least which it meaned for me. Every day was a discovering act where I learned a lot about myself and the world in general. In certain way it was an experience of growing and maturity.

I remember the sunset of these day in English Bay; the orange colour increasing across the horizon while thousands of people was arriving at the shore to see the fireworks.

The fireworks are sponsored by HSBC and each year two invited countries show us their labour and tradition refered to this rockets.

The 210Po is a very dangerous and radiactive substance. I suppose that everybody knows about it after the murder of Litnivenko.

I´ve read over this curious case but I haven´t listened a question about this case, and less the answer:

If Litnivenko was murdered in UK and there are severe restrictions in the airports and the ports, how was possible that the 210Po, a radioactive substance, could entry freely in the country?.

The Polonium is not easy to manage, you need an special equipment to manage it.

If a very dangerous radiactive substance could entry easily in UK, why we have several controls in our airports?, could anyone entry this kind of substances and make, for example, a "dirty bomb"?

Litnivenko´s case is not only a fascinating story of espionage, it could be the confirmation of our weak position against the terrorism.

Recently USA aprobed a ridiculous law about to built a wall across teh border with Mexico... poor people; the Nature can´t stop us and Bush and his mates think that the can stop a natural trend.

Our specie is made to emigrate looking for new spaces to grow up.

The people who emigrate from Africa to Europe for example use to walk the routes that I´ve underlined in pink and later on they go in very small ships until the other continent... they´re crossing the biggest desert in the world, the Atlantic Ocean and the rain forest in Gulf Guinea.

Frankly, can Bush to think that he could stop the people with a ridiculous wall?

Furthermore, I think that the question is so similar to Europe; the main number of people arrive by airplane.

The Al Fayed´s family, the owner of Harrod´s are from Aswan and this place is property of him too.
If you visit Egypt is a must to visit some of this shops. All the essences of expensive perfumes can you find here. You can get beautiful glass bottles to keep the essences.

The Tajinaste (Echium Wilpretii) is an endemical plant of Tenerife which lives exclusively in the surroundings of Teide; the main volcano of Tenerife and the highest mountain of Spain with 3718 metres.

Each spring this plant use to have thousands of red flowers plenty of noisy bees, and noisy tourists too who are taking photos as models in front of them as you can see here in this funny photo. I odn´t know if the objective of the photo is the tajinaste or the tourist making strange positions like a huge natural kama sutra.

There is other specie of tajinaste in Gomera which colour is blue, however is almost disappeared and its locations are hidden to the public.

In order to answer the question of the title of the post I can only do it with other answer refered to myself; Why did I flight 10000 kilometres?.

Certainly I could think deeply about this video because it´s speaking us about the sense of our lifes. When we lost the references, our mates, our relatives, suddenly we discover that our life hasn´t as sense as we used to believe before.

Bhuda, Jesus, Mahoma... all them before to change their world, their minds, started a mystic travel.

In other way to walk is a very positive activity in order to improve our health; in the body and in our thoughts.

Maybe we need to walk too as him.

It was my first video

I recorded this video in 1993 during a excursion. I really enjoyed the hard walk across a very deep ravine in my island. You can see the exact position of the place in the map that appears at the beggining of the video.

Sergi, our teacher of sports, planned this excursion for the end of our course. Frankly, i didn´t remember myself as histrionic and, in summary, adolescent. Certainly it´s a difficult period in our lives the adolescence.

I´ve seen in Youtube other videos about Gomera... it seems as if Gomera would be only Valle Gran Rey (VGR). Perhaps the publicity about the island outside is only focused to these place however the island is so much.

VGR was famous for some communities of hippies during the sixties and it´s true that several american youngs ran away to this place avoiding the war of Vietnam. Even today the tourists are named in general by the local people "hippies".

I helped to edit a book

I helped to edit a book about my island, Gomera, recently. I went with the photographer, and editor, walking and looking for interesting views of the island.

The book is written in English, Spanish and Germany. It´s a kind of documentary about the island, village to village, with notes about history and with references for people who are looking for accomodation, restaurants and other turistical services.

You can see some of this views in this weblog. I was in Egypt on september when they presented the book officialy. It seems that it was a success.

Fran, the editor, gave me two books; one of them about Gomera and the other one about all Canarias. I decided to donate the Canarias book to the Public Library of Vancouver. I´m going to send it shortly with a friend there.

I´d like that the people dream with these fantastic views there so I know that we´re so far and probably they couldn´t come here.

I know perfectly that you can find the bottles written in almost all languagues accross the world however it was my first arabic Coke Cole. It was a very hot day, oh Lord have mercy on me... 50ºC. I felt the first day crushed but later on I started to drink... and to swear, and I felt better.

My Egypt

Almost one year ago I left Vancouver, Canada where the weather was so rainy and a bit cold... I changed it for a temperature of 50ºC in the very hot south of Egypt.
Definitevely, I´m living in the extremes.
I liked so much my travel, Egypt and the nice Egyptian too. Certainly they´ve a very different culture however the kindness is something that everybody can understand perfectly.
Yes, it´s a poor country, the sellers could be insistent according our customs, the poverty is an unnice spectacle in some areas and the weather, mainly in the desert, is awful... but anyway it´s Egypt. It´s the fantastic country where you can find our remote past, our roots.
I enjoyed a lot this wonderful country that it´s a Must for all traveller. I´ll upload more photos soon.

Falcon Crest

I think that in some ocassions the holidays is a time for the nostalgia, the so far memories. Falcan Crest was one of the first american soap operas that we could watch on TV in Spain, together to other very famous productions; Dinasty, Dallas, Starky&Hatch... the 80´s was a golden epoque for this kind of series.
Later on, the 90´s, Beverly Hills 90210 (which title was translated in Spain to "Sensation of to be alive"), Friends, Ally McBeal... but it wasn´t the same. It was a sad decade in my opinion, it was very conservative the atmosphere and the TVs was focused to the marketing... then Naomi Klein wrote No Logo, did you remind?
I enclose you the opening and the final speech´s Angela. Falcon Crest started on me the wish to go at United States although later on the 11S, the procedures to obtain the visa to entry and so on pushed me to decide go at Canada.

Kirstie and Phil: Where Best to Invest.

I visited an English friend mine last day in Tenerife. He´s living there after a long life saving money, and experience, before to decide to move from London to Tenerife.
We was watching the English TV and i felt amazed about this for me curious program; Location, location, location.
The program consists in a couple who are looking for a house. Then Kirstie and Phil show them three examples of available houses visiting the houses and recording the impresions and opinions of all of them.
They show the price of each house and finally the couple decide which house is chosen by them.
I didn´t see this kind of program in Spain, surely because for us the house is something "luxurious" today, it´s a great investment in our lifes. We spend almost 25 years of our salary to pay it, obviously with awful mortgages and with banks always trying to lie you and take advantage about your ignorance or necessity: The demand of house is bigger than the offer, in fact we use to buy "on plane", it´s to say, we use to buy projects of future houses.

I just came back from Egypt visiting the Nile since Aswan until Cairo. It had been a wonderful experience in summary.
I haven´t American Visa but Mr Rolando, a mate in our tour who is from Chile, has one. He has an American Express Platinum... according him a very valuable evidence of credit.
He use to travel accross the world, in fact, I enjoyed a lot listening him telling stories about several airports in the world.
Obviously he use to pay all his expenses using this cards but in this ocassion he couldn´t do it.
It was in Aswan, the main city in the south of Egypt. We was in one of the ships which travel doing tours since Luxor until Aswan and the staff refused the card. Even he went to other ships and a bank in the city but he couldn´t get use it.
Fortunately he has a collection of cards and he used a Visa.
It seems that the american cards aren´t good at least in Aswan. He´ll complain about it when he come back to Chile.

One year ago I was in Vancouver watching on TV the Katrina´s aftermath. I named then to the canarian settlements of Lousiana... I´m wondering what it had happened them.

It was a great tragedy for everybody in Lousiana and in the Caribean Sea in general.

It had one a high school, and inside it I was. I´ve digitalized this old video recorded in VHS-C with one of the first digital cameras arrived at Spain; Grundig LC 210C... a relic.

However I could learn a lot with this old camera mainly because you was the director, I mean that you had to do everything, you was able to decide matters as the white balance, the focus, etc.

Maybe I´ll donate the camera to the group of mentally disabled people who I am working right now... I guess that they can learn as myself with the same camera. It´s like the children and the parents... it´ll be my legacy.

The last day YouTube crashed... too much users maybe. Anyway, the malfunction in internet starts to be usual; Blogger can´t upload photos sometimes too.
I think that we´ll see the born of Internet Two soon.
I´m like internet too, I´ve been this days sad and upset. It´s maybe that is my first August working in a very hot office, really bored... and thinking about my next steps in my life and how it´s fucking hard find good and interesting people to have a relationship. Cayuco... or coffin

Cayuco is the word that the mass media are using to make reference to the big boats which are arriving from Senegal and Mauritania with hundreds of people.

However the word means a kind of small boat used in the area of Caribe and Amazonas. Curiously it means "coffin" too there.

You can see in the photos the rest of some of boats being buried in the harbour in Gomera. We´re are taking advantadge about we´re increasing the area of the harbour thus we put the rest of this boats into the holes.

I think that is something like an epitaph to the victims.
